wondering if i need to use the 106fa finishing polish if i used the 203 prior. the 203 is a 2 step process so i dont know if using the 106 is going to achieve much. my thinking was the 203 then 106 then meg non cut polish and finally a sealant
Yeah I reckon 203S is pretty much a one step polish on most paints. No point spending an extra 5-6 hours with 106FF trying to improve the finish by 2%.
Use 106FF by itself if you want to take less paint off.
It really does depend on the paint colour and paint type and of course how long you are prepared to spend and what type of finish you want to achieve as to weather you should refine the paintwork after using 203s.
If it was a dark coloured car and I was using a cutting pad with 203s then I would definately refine with 106ff on a finishing pad.
If it was a silver car , I could get away with only one step.
Sticky dark paint (honda) will also leave more marring with the same pad than non sticky dark paint (VW) . So 2 step machine polishing would be the minimum for honda and with the VW paint you could get away with one.
203s was a replacement for 3.01. In saying this, 203s will never ever make something as glossy as 106ff. It's designed to cut hard. A better one step that refines nicer than 203s is PO85U.
Caprice, I hope you are over-exaggerating about spending 5-6 hours longer refining to get 2% better results.
If anything, it's the time you spend on the initial step that improves the end result.
At the end of the day, if you use the 203s as a one step and you think it looks good then stop there. Otherwise, if you think the finish could be improved by refining, then you should do it.

yeah sorry i meant to say 1 step instead of a normally a 2 step. i have liberty wagon and i know that subaru paint is very soft especially black which is the colour of my blitzen. do you think the 203 would suffice then. the paint isnt too bad its got light scratches and some holograms on one door. i used autoglym for dark coloured cars prior but by hand which did a pretty good job but its time to go the machine rout.

A bit offtopic but have anyone here tried the Menzerna S500? I got it yesterday and so far i'm really happy with it, the only downside with it I think is that its sometimes sticks to the paint a bit.

nope but ive been trialling menz fast gloss. its fantastic for spot scratch removal, doesnt seem to leave marring or swirls. will remove 1200g in one pass on rotary. clogs pads and sticks to paint when doing a correction though. doesn't seem to matter how little you use, by the time youve done 2 doors pads rooted.
As far as I know, S500 is Fast Gloss. I have a sample bottle of S500 here at the shop, I used it once on heavily oxidised solid red with a green edge pad with great results. I actually switched over to the S500 as the Megs 105 I was using wasnt giving the best results.
Whilst the 105 created a shine, the S500 seemed to cut better and produced a much deeper shine which was then refined with PO85U and a beige festool pad.

cant decide what to use. 203 just as or 203 then 85u. heard 85u is pretty good also, cuts finer than 203 but leaves a good shine. the place im getting this from (overseas) I have to have 100 u.s. in my basket before they ship overseas here, so at the moment i have lake country 6.5 6 pack of your choice of pad type, 206fa and the 85u. My misses focus has some deep cratches on the roof so i thought getting these would give a good range of polish for both cars
also just got the gex150t for 350 from sydney tools

Why not just order from a local supplier then. You will get the stuff the next day (same day if you pick it up) You can ring them up and talk to them if you have any issues, you can also easily return a damaged product.
