That looks like fun, l must admit that the panel that you have done makes the rest of the car look pretty bad, can’t wait to see the finished result Cam, your work always inspires me to learn more and to strive for that great finish , keep up the good work.

So so true! If people are willing to pay the money the finish that can be achieved is amazing. You just need to look to the UK and USA to see examples of that.
How can you correct something that deep without respraying though? The scratches down the bottom left look like they're through the clear and into the paint? I would have thought wetsanding just levels the clear?

The scratches were not through the clearcost. In fact, you were hard pressed to feel them with your finger nail.
The reason why they look so deep is because I'm using a 5200k Metal Halide light source and this type of lighting make any type of paint defect so much more pronounced.
However, they were still too deep to safely machine polish out. There would have been too much heat generated by trying to use compounds and pads.
So in this case, wetsanding is the safer way to remove clear coat.

- Menzerna Powergloss, orange festool - rotary
- Meguiars 105 ultra cut compound, orange festool - rotary
- Menzerna IP 3.01, orange festool - rotary
- Menzerna 106ff, black festool waffle - rotary
All other panels on the vehicle recieved a double stage machine polish consisting of the following-
Menzerna IP 3.01, orange festool - rotary at very high speed ( approx 5 on the Shinex speed control ) with heavy pad pressure.
Menzerna 106ff , black festool waffle again with high speed ( 4 - 5 ) and heavy pressure and finished down with lower speed ( 2 ) and low pad pressure.
Why did I persist with the menzerna IP 3.01 instead of using the fast cutting Meguiars 105 compound?
The toyota paint was sticky and 105 has a short working time so all this combo achieved was heavy marring and not a lot of correction.
The Menzerna IP 3.01 ( which is no longer made ) cut slow but finished down much much better than the 105. It still left some minor holograming as the paint was black and sticky but it did a great job of removing the defects. This marring was later cleaned up with Menzerna 106ff anyway.
Some deeper marks remain in the clear coat but i wasnt going to chase every last defect as this is not a show car and the amount of chips and bird poo stains on the rest of the paintwork did not justify the rest of it being 110% perfect.
As it sits today after the double stage machine polish, 97% of the defects have been removed.
No Correction-
After double stage machine polish ( 106ff residue is still present as it wasnt easy to remove it all from this sticky paint. )
50/50
Machine polish complete and the vehicle awaits it's pre LSP soapy wash to remove dust, splatter and polishing oils.
