I've been buying from Harold for a few years. As said the quart sizes are handy because I have a 6.5L sump, saves me buying two 5L bottles.

Hello everybody i'm new to the forum, although i've been lurking for a fair while and learning a lot.

I believe there is an oil which will be an excellent choice, as you can leave it in for 25000 kms or one year, and if you use their EaO OIL FILTER, it may remain on for the full 12 months as well.

It's called Amsoil AME 15-40 HEAVY DUTY DIESEL AND MARINE MOTOR OIL. As it's a group 4 oil it's not cheap, but very good in every respect.

I'm not sure what filter the current Ford 6 cylinder engine takes these days, but if it's a Ford AFL1. Then the equivalent in the Amsoil filter is an EaO 15.

Regards,
Brad

This only applies to some cars, and is only their recommendation with testing, they will tell u so. Amsoil is a PAO, but so is Mobil 1, Castrol Edge, Racing version of Royal Purple, Motul Excess and Penrite Sin Range. Amsoil is too expensive, even a large retailer in the US i talk to admits this. He cannot understand why it costs so much. Anyway. Even when they tell us its importation costs, there is no synthetic oil made in Australia, and not much mineral either. Some oils will be bottled and blended here, but the synthetic component, Group 3, Pao group 4 and Ester Group 5 will mostly be imported. Chevron might make their own, not certain.

Does the ford clearly specify 15w40 ? Why not use a quality 5w40 ? It gives u more options. If you really want a 15w40 try Penrite Sin 15w40 for a syntheitc version, or Delo 400 and Delvac MX(Repco Diesel oil) for a blend. I use the latter.

I use a mobil delvac mx, something about higher zinc content in diesel engine oils which offers greater protection because truck diesel operate under WOT for sustained periods of time.

That is correct. They have higher levels of anti wear and detergents, but also have good base stocks, are cheap compared to their petrol counterparts and are well proven. Remember, they are not diesel oils, but they are duel fuel oils, primarily marketed to their mixed fleet market. The SL/CI-4 and SL/CI-4+ rating they carry puts a lot of requirements on these oils.

Royal Purple 10w40 would be the best choice for a F6.

Royal Purple is too expensive, and not really worth the money considering what its made of. Its the same base stock as Mobil 1, Castrol etc. Royal is generally retailing around the $90. The others usually $20 less. Royal is expensive all over, people even complain about its price in the U.S where its made.

Thanks guys for the comments. Just to follow-up I've been using Nulon 15-40 weight and I'm really happy with it. I'm just about to do my next oil change.

It's probably ok, but alot of guys run a 10-40 weight for the F6 and the XR6 turbo, which isn't the manufactorers recommended weight. I wanted to follow their recommendation of 15-40 and I like the Nulon oil so I'm sticking with it.

Cheers from Vanuatu! Cool

I think motor oil is a bit like wax to be honest. I've never used an oil that's really wowed me in the way the motor runs. The only real difference noticeable is the viscosity and mineral vs synthetic. Without having the oil analysed after you drop it, how could you really tell it's doing a better job than others?

Yes but it is all about the additives. RP doesn't break down as easy, and it has better cleaning agents in it. You get what you pay for.

By the way, 10w40 is the same as 15w40 at normal operating temperature. The W is the weight when cold, so the 10w40 is slightly thinner at a cold temperature.

+ 1. I use AMSoil Series 3000 HDEO 5W-30 exclusively in my vehicles after doing bucketloads of research.

The AME 15W40 has a TBN of 12.1 and an outstanding HTHS of 4.4!

I purchase mine from Lubrication Management in Melbourne. Great to deal with.

Just make sure it meets the specs for your vehicle!

Exactly, Royal Purple got in trouble for many things it says, by an independant body. Royal Purple has nothing special that many other oils do not. Its strength lies in its high use of Molybdenum which many oils use, Zinc which all oil has, and Synerlec is a ester additive same as what MObil 1 call SuperSyn, Castrol Edge just call there's a Di-ester booster. They vary slightly from each other using different ester groups. The $90 Royal Purple is not as good as their racing version which is a Group 4/5 oil. They fobb off the $90 but it is less superior and similar base to the $70 oils.

Have been using Royal Purple 5w30 in the XR5 for a few oil changes now, at this stage I have no dramas with it and prefer it to the Castrol Edge Sport 5w30 was using previously. Autobarn sell it so it's a matter of waiting until they have their sales, I think at $75 which is what I paid for 5L is reasonable enough.
